The CSLP (Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance) is a research centre that develops non-commercial interactive educational tools. Used in schools around the world, these tools teach students specific skills (e.g. reading and writing, information literacy, math) as well as how to become strong, self directed learners. The primary goal of our research is the advancement of knowledge and its wide-scale application in order to have an immediate and sustained effect on how our schools, post-secondary institutions and learning organizations operate. Specifically, we are interested in exploring the use of interactive applications in this regard.

We are currently looking for a Developer / Programmer, versed in PHP and MySQL, to join our team at Concordia University. This individual needs to be able to jump into our development projects quickly. Many of our projects also use JavaScript, HTML and CSS for animations, audio, video, and interactivity.

Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computation Arts, Hypermedia technology, or related field and 2 years of relevant experience preferably.
  • Strengths in as many of these areas as possible:
Essential:    PHP and MySQL web integration and programming.
Important:   JavaScript, HTML 5 and CSS
Desired:      AJAX, jQuery 
Assets:       Web interface design, audio editing, animation
  • Creative and organized individual with strong teamwork skills.
  • Service-oriented individual with some understanding of the use and workings of technology-based systems for research and education, especially web-based systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (bilingualism English/ French is an asset).
Duties/Responsibilities :

As a Developer/Programmer, you will be an integral part of the CSLP team. Specifically, you will:
  • Participate in the design and development of CSLP software projects.
  • Work with project coordinators, instructional designers and researchers to ensure that the softwares conform to our software design principles.

  • Meet project requirements in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Actively engage in assigned creative design activities: design specifications, design revision, etc.
  • Attend relevant meetings and collaborate with other team members to ensure the highest quality design and implementation of CSLP software projects.
  • Document your work in order to provide the other developers with a reference of what was done, how, and why.
The successful candidate is expected to respect all Concordia University Policies and is particularly affected by BD-4 (Ethical Actions) and HR-5 (Employment of Research Personnel Hired by Grant Recipients). The successful candidate reports to the Creative Director, but will be expected to coordinate activity with the CSLP Director and Manager, research teams and project coordinators.

This full-time position will start in April/May. Salary will be negotiated in the context of academic research-funded positions and based upon qualifications.
