About Meliadine and Our Nunavut Operations
Over the next two years, Agnico Eagle will hire over 1,000 people across our Nunavut mining operations to help us bring two new sites into production. Meliadine is now under construction and is expected to begin operating in late 2019. Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay.  The site will feature a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex. We expect to operate Meliadine for at least 14 years and we will need to hire over 900 people to help us mine this rich new deposit.  The Meadowbank open-pit mine operates since 2010. It’s located in the Kivalliq region and is 100 km north of Baker Lake. The life of mine is expected to end in 2018 and the company is actively exploring the Amaruq deposit located 50 km northwest of the mine.  It’s an advanced exploration site that could potentially extend the mine life of Meadowbank and is currently in the permitting phase with a possible start up by 2019. In addition to activities at these sites, a number of support staff also work from offices located in Val d’Or and Mirabel, Quebec.
