Job Summary

Are you a game designer or a level designer known for your technical skills and your quick adaptation to different video game engines? Do you like to develop tools to help you in your work? You may be the colleague we're looking for!

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Game Design Director, the Technical Designer has the dual mandate of creating and implementing complex systems in a video game, as well as identifying and creating the quality tools needed to develop the video game in the most efficient way. Acting as a technical reference for team members, the Technical Designer regularly assists, supports and advises his colleagues.

Main responsibilities:
  • Oversee the production and implementation of the technical elements related to the design of a complete video game, working closely with the technical directors, programmers and collaborators from other departments.
  • Act as game designer or level designer while helping to prototype gameplay features.
  • Ensure that new features and tools are functional and usable before they are released to the rest of the team.
  • Design and implement more complex, abstract or technically challenging elements that impact the overall gameplay.
  • Offer technical expertise on tools and their deployment, documenting them and then ensuring the dissemination of best practices to the team and the entire studio.
  • Participate in advanced debugging until the end of game development.
  • Contribute to data optimization and ensure compliance with applicable technical standards according to budgetary constraints.
  • Recommend possible improvements to design tools and best practices to the Game Design Director.
Requirements: 
  • 1 to 3 years experience as a game designer or level designer
  • Ability to understand, communicate and script in technical language (C++, C#, Blueprint, Lua, etc.)
  • Experience with several engines (Unity, Unreal)
  • Experience with a 3D modeling tool (e.g. Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Sketchup) an asset
  • Strong ability to design in layers and iterations
  • Spoken and written functional bilingualism
