Job Summary

Overview:
Under the UI Director’s supervision, the incumbent is in charge of the ergonomic interface elements designed specifically for a video game (UI/UX). In order to make the game fun to play for the users, he is required to conceptualize and design the game interface elements in collaboration with game designers and other stakeholders. He also supervises, supports and trains the UI Designers working under his responsibility. With the other team leads, he is responsible for the quality of the product and the continuous improvement of the development process. In every project in which he is involved, he is the go-to person in his field of expertise.

Principal responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the producer and the project managers, identify the clients’ needs in order to establish a visual style and a work process that fit within the production schedule;
  • Establish and maintain an efficient work process within the team;
  • Make sure that all team members have the information and the material they need to work efficiently;
  • Motivate, coach and support the UI design team, especially in anything related to training, professional development, coaching, and talent management reviews;
  • Raise issues that have a direct impact on production and propose solutions or alternatives;
  • Allocate tasks to team members based on availability and abilities;
  • Oversee the team’s work by making sure that progress is made, standards are respected, deadlines are met, and quality is up to standards;
  • Meet regularly with other team leads and UI director to exchange on best practices;
  • Act as point of contact and expert in your field for the client.

Requirements:

  • Training in graphic design, visual arts, multimedia, or other relevant field;
  • Five (5) years of experience in video game interface design;
  • Relevant team management experience.

Requested profile:

  • Good knowledge of the Unreal game engine, Unity 3D an asset;
  • Understanding of user/machine behavior (ergonomics);
  • A passion for design, layout, and communication;
  • Ability to solve complex navigation issues;
  • Superior leadership skills, ability to rally and motivate;
  • Ability to make your expertise shine with our clients, partners and employees so as to be recognized as an expert in your field;
  • Proficient with creation software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe XD);
  • Grasp of the technical limitations specific to the production of video game;
  • Strong ability to analyze, synthesize, explain and communicate ideas;
  • Strong communication skills in English and French;
  • Presentation of a portfolio.
