Pressure washer Q&A
A pressure washer is the solution to many of our modern problems. We all hate living in an old, dirty house. However, thanks to their ability to blow away years-long grime and dirt, pressure washers are used widely for both home and commercial uses. From cleaning the driveway, the fence to industrial car washing, the best pressure washer for cars gets the job done in no time.
But, same as any other machines, you might run into problems from time to time. This article collects the most frequently asked questions and presents you with the answers you need.
Question 1: What kind of pressure washer do I need?
There are two kinds of pressure washers: electric and gas.
Electric washers are smaller and less powerful, therefore more suitable for smaller houses and for small cleaning projects. Gas washers are bigger, bulkier, and therefore, more powerful. When using gas washers, you will not be tethered to an outlet, which can be in many ways safer since water and electricity never make a good combo. Gas powered washers are also more expensive, so if you are planning for big cleaning projects like cleaning an entire tennis court, or that you think that you will use it often, a gas washer might be worth the investment.
Question 2: Which kind of nozzle should I use?
There are five common types of nozzles: 0, 15, 25, 40 degrees and a black nozzle. The larger the angle, the weaker the spray.
- 0 degree nozzle produces the strongest water jet. It is good for cleaning deep-seated stains such as tar, mildew, glue, dried gum, and so on. Do not, however, use this powerful stream on delicate surfaces such as glass or woods. Do not spray with a 0 degree nozzle directly on painted patio furniture because the powerful water might rip off the paint.
- 15 degree nozzle produces less strong jet and a wider fanning motion, but it also requires careful use on soft surfaces. This mode is good for preparing surfaces for painting, resealing, or staining. It is suitable for cleaning dust, paint, rust but also powerful enough to blash out deep-seated mud.

- 25 degree nozzle creates an even wider angle. This nozzle is most commonly used by pressure washer for home use. It is gentle enough to spray on delicate surfaces, yet powerful enough to blow away common particles like leaves, debris, dirt.
- 40 degree nozzle is the most gentle of all. You can use it on windows, curtains, flower vases, and so on.
- Black nozzle has the lowest pressure. This is what you will use if you decide to add soap in the tank. However, note that not every pressure washer has the black nozzle, but you can always buy it separately on Amazon or in stores.
Question 3: How much water do pressure washers use?
The average capacity is eight gallons of water per minute. While it may seem that pressure washers use lots of water since the stream is so powerful, they actually save more water than a normal garden hose. This is because the machine takes up water, but it uses it efficiently by creating high pressure that increases water’s velocity. The higher velocity increases the strength of the stream, thereby allowing the machine to do the cleaning job more efficiently.
