Hlx are partnered with a cutting-edge medical device company in Montreal, currently developing a percutaneous heart pump for patients with advanced heart failure. Their collaborative team leverages cutting-edge research, design, and manufacturing expertise to deliver products that make a meaningful impact on human health. They're seeking an R&D Engineer with approximately 10 years of experience in the life sciences field, who will be responsible for driving new product development, optimizing existing designs, and executing end-to-end manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Research & Development :
- Lead the conceptualization, design, and prototyping of life science products.
- Conduct feasibility studies and tests for new product ideas.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (scientists, marketing, supply chain) to meet product requirements.
- Design & Engineering :
- Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software.
- Develop and refine product designs to enhance performance and manufacturability.
- Work with suppliers to source components and materials for prototypes and production.
- Manufacturing & Process Optimization :
- Oversee and participate in hands-on machine operation (e.g., CNC machining, 3D printing, injection molding).
- Develop and improve production methods to enhance product quality and throughput.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues by diagnosing root causes and implementing timely solutions.
- Machine Operation & Maintenance :
- Set up and safely operate relevant machinery to produce parts and prototypes.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibrations, and minor repairs on equipment to minimize downtime.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry-standard equipment and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education & Background :
- Bachelor’s (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 10 years of industry experience in the life sciences sector, focusing on both R&D and manufacturing.
- Technical Skills :
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) for product design.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, additive manufacturing).
- Ability to operate and maintain production machinery and equipment.
- Soft Skills :
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
- Adaptability and eagerness to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
