R&D Product Developer

Location : Montreal, QC

Reports to : CRO and CEO

We are seeking an R&D Product Developer with a strong background in the food industry and hands-on experience working on a manufacturing plant floor. This role is instrumental in the recipe development process, from concept to commercialization, ensuring product quality, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead product development projects from ideation to commercial launch.
  • Develop and maintain product recipes, ensuring they align with production capabilities.
  • Prototype and prepare product samples in the R&D lab for internal review, customer presentations, and market testing.
  • Actively participate in plant trials and first production runs to ensure a seamless transition from R&D to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with production teams to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, and minimize waste.
  • Conduct product costing analysis and ensure alignment with operational budgets.
  • Work closely with Sales, Production, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Purchasing teams to bring new products to market.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues in the field, responding to customer feedback with technical solutions.
  • Engage with ingredient suppliers to source and test raw materials that meet product and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of recipes, procedures, test results, and analytical reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, and food safety regulations at all times.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of food recipe development experience, specifically in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working directly on a manufacturing plant floor during product development and scale-up.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and food safety regulations in a processing environment.
  • Strong baking and formulation skills, with an understanding of ingredient functionality.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
